LG VS

Vibration Sensor Error

Medium severityExpert Guide

What Your Machine Is Actually Telling You

VS means the vibration sensing system (MEMS accelerometer or vibration sensor) is sending out-of-range or no data. LG uses this sensor for its TrueBalance™ technology — dynamically adjusting spin speed to minimize vibration.

Common causes:
1. Sensor hardware failure (30%) — chip failed.
2. Wiring to sensor (25%) — connector loose.
3. Sensor mount loose (15%) — not firmly attached.
4. Main board (15%) — sensor input circuit.
5. Software glitch (15%) — temporary lock-up.

What You're Probably Seeing Right Now

  • VS during spin ramp-up.
  • Machine won't reach full spin speed.
  • VS appeared suddenly.
  • VS is intermittent.

DIY Fix — From Easiest to Hardest

1

Power Reset (5 minutes — Fixes 15%)

1. Unplug for 10 minutes.
2. Test with Rinse+Spin.
3. If VS clears: temporary glitch.
2

Level the Machine (5 minutes)

Abnormal vibration from unlevel machine:
1. Spirit level on top.
2. Adjust all four feet.
3. No rocking.
3

Check Sensor Connections (10 minutes)

1. Unplug, remove top panel.
2. Find vibration sensor (small board on tub/frame).
3. Reconnect connector firmly.
4. Check for corrosion.
5. Ensure sensor is firmly mounted.
4

Replace Sensor (15 minutes)

If sensor confirmed faulty:
1. Disconnect and remove.
2. Install new sensor ($20-50).
3. Secure mounting.
4. Reconnect and test.

When to Call a Pro

  • Vibration sensor — $80-$200 installed.
  • Main board — $150-$400.
