Whirlpool F20

Water Inlet Issue

Low severityExpert Guide

What Your Machine Is Actually Telling You

F20 means the CCU commanded a fill but the pressure sensor didn't detect any water level rise within 8 minutes. Water is not entering the machine or entering too slowly.

Common causes:
1. Water taps closed (30%) — obvious but frequently missed.
2. Inlet filter screens clogged (25%) — mineral deposits.
3. Kinked hoses (10%) — crimped behind machine.
4. Low water pressure (10%) — house-wide issue.
5. Inlet valve failure (10%) — solenoid dead.
6. Pressure sensor (10%) — can't detect fill.
7. CCU valve relay (5%) — not powering valve.

What You're Probably Seeing Right Now

  • Drum is completely empty.
  • F20 right after pressing Start.
  • You can hear valves clicking but no water.
  • No clicking — valves not powering.

DIY Fix — From Easiest to Hardest

1

Check Water Taps (30 seconds — Fixes 30%)

1. Both hot and cold taps fully open.
2. Counterclockwise = open.
3. Restart cycle.
2

Clean Inlet Filter Screens (10 minutes — Fixes 25%)

1. Turn off both taps.
2. Unscrew hoses from washer.
3. Pull out mesh screens with pliers.
4. Rinse under water.
5. Reinstall screens, reconnect hoses.

**Clean every 6 months.**
3

Check for Kinked Hoses (2 minutes)

1. Pull machine out.
2. Inspect inlet hoses.
3. Straighten any kinks.
4. Replace if cracked ($15-30).
4

Test Water Pressure (2 minutes)

1. Disconnect a hose from washer, aim into bucket.
2. Open tap.
3. Should fill bucket quickly.
4. If trickle: water supply problem.
5

Test Inlet Valve (10 minutes)

1. Unplug.
2. Access valve (back panel, top).
3. Measure solenoid: **800-1500Ω** = good. OL = dead.
4. Replace: $25-60.

When to Call a Pro

  • Inlet valve — $80-$200 installed.
